Biography of Domenika Nikhoff (Domenica Niehoff)
Domenica Nihoff, born on August 3, 1945, in Hamburg, faced a challenging childhood marked by her mother's mental illness and the loss of her father in the war. Raised in a Catholic orphanage, she began her independent life early and became a prostitute in the 1970s, gaining prominence in Hamburg's St. Pauli district. Beyond her work, she advocated for the legalization of prostitution, sex workers' rights, and social protections.
In the 1980s, Nihoff became a media figure, hosting TV programs and addressing taboo topics openly. She later founded a support center for women exiting the industry and engaged in charity work. Domenica Nihoff died of cancer on February 12, 2009, leaving a legacy as a symbol of the fight for women's dignity and rights, with a street in Hamburg named in her honor.
