Salma Hayek, born September 2, 1966, in Coatzacoalcos, Mexico, is a Mexican-American actress, director, and producer. She debuted in the telenovela Teresa (1989) and gained fame in Mexico before moving to Hollywood in 1991. Her breakthrough role was in Desperado (1995), and she earned an Oscar nomination for portraying Frida Kahlo in Frida (2002), which she also produced.
