Biography of Alisha Nyuman (Alysha Newman)
Alysha Newman, born on 29 June 1994 in London, Ontario, is a Canadian pole vaulter who won a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, becoming the first Canadian woman to achieve this in her sport. She is also the 2018 Commonwealth Games champion and holds the Canadian record with a vault of 4.85 meters. Initially a gymnast, a serious back injury in her teens led her to switch to athletics, where she quickly excelled and began competing internationally while studying at the University of Miami and Eastern Michigan University.
Newman has participated in three Olympic Games (2016, 2020, 2024) and gained additional recognition for her celebratory twerk after successful jumps.
